22nd-Dec-2009 12:29 pm - ...and to all a good night
My brother just sent me a recording of Addison saying "I love you Wendy!" It's pretty much the best thing I've ever gotten via email, EVER. I maybe started crying.

Awww man! Love being hormonal at Christmas time. *wipes face*

EEEE!!

  • 'Big Bang Theory' Cast Presents: 2009!: Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco and Co. reenact four of the most memorable pop-culture scenes of the year: New Moon, Susan Boyle, Jon and Kate, and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Yesterday, I watched The Proposal, and it was SO GOOD. Not my sort of movie, really, and yet? Loooooved it.
  • 21st-Dec-2009 09:26 am - things I need you to tell me
If I bake cookies on Tuesday and keep them in a container (tupperware-like), will they still be edible by Friday? ETA: To clarify, I can't make the cookies closer to Friday. If I could, I would. It's Tuesday, or never. Thus my question!

Also, I have a Santa scarf, and I don't know how to wear it! It's long and thin, it's a silk-ey material. Not a knit scarf. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? I tried just draping it around my neck and it looked ridiculous. I want to wear it to work Wednesday (SANTAS!), so....how do you wear a scarf?!!?

Who else needs advice? Let's get all the questions answered. LJ knows everything!!
20th-Dec-2009 06:45 pm - talk to corporate, approve memos
Today was much better! And even though all the rest of the world is all "Awww man! Tomorrow is MONDAY!" I do not have to work for the next two days. Two days off! IN A ROW. It's absolute bliss and I am super excited!

Here's my plan for tomorrow: go to Euless to submit my defensive driving paperwork to the court, go to the library (my library, not the one where I work), pic up some pics from CVS, go to the grocery store and get stuff to make: peanut butter pie for Dad for Christmas, dulce de leche cake for NYE, sangria for NYE, and peanut butter cookies, which I probably will make for Christmas too because they look like reindeer! Then, I'm coming home to wrap allllll my Christmas presents. I also will drink LOADS of tea and Starbucks throughout the day. This takes careful planning, as you can see. I have The Proposal to watch on DVD, and tons of bookmarked fic to read. AND I just started an excellent novel last night.

I may change back into PJs once I get home again.

*beams* I am very, very excited.

And now? I just finished scarfing down delicious Chipotle. And, the Survivor finale starts in 15 minutes. WOOT.
20th-Dec-2009 07:48 am - Sunday Recs: One SPN + misc. blather
I wanted to be sure and get this fic recced before Christmas because it TOTALLY is the holiday fic I always wanted but never knew until I read it. DON'T MISS IT.

  • Some Wishes Are Worth Waiting For by [info]runedgirl -- (Sam/Dean, NC-17, 6,400 words) -- Sam and Dean deal with a spirit terrorizing a family just before the holidays, and the family invite them to spend Christmas with them. How do Sam and Dean deal with a full on Christmas with all the trimmings?

In other news, the dogs woke me up at 5:30 a.m. BOOOO. Luckily (?) I do have to work today so it isn't a total wash, but it would have been nice to sleep for a few more hours. SIGH. Instead, I already have done a load of laundry, emptied and reloaded the dishwasher, made and consumed toast and tea, and paid bills. (WHY do bills come in December? Shouldn't they all be automatically postponed until January?)

The other day, [info]lazy_daze linked to this FREAKING ADORABLE blog post of a puppy discovering a bowl of cupcake batter. It seriously has been my happy place for DAYS. I am strongly considering having the pictures printed out so I can look at them ALL THE TIME. Loooooove!

Now I have a request for you: Suggest a topic for me to obsessively read about on wikipedia while I'm at work today.
  • Today was a rough day. Let's recap: a woman on the phone cussed me out for being unwilling to google medical advice for her, I found out our weekend security guard is mostly deaf, and a guy got kicked out for sleeping, got pissed and kicked out the control panel on the elevator as retribution.

    *whimper*

I'm so glad I have Monday off.

Although I did discover online crossword puzzles today. Thank goodness or I'd never have survived three straight hours in periodicals.

I haven't updated in a long time...what's up with that? I've just been busy working I guess, and getting ready for the holidays. Same as everybody else.

My mom once told me that the most important part if being an adult is that you realize you can get through hard times. That bad stuff happens, and sometimes life sucks, but eventually you just grow to understand that you can get through it, you're able to get through it. That no matter what, the difficult stuff always will pass, you just have to hang on until you can get through to the other side.

That's just been on my mind a lot lately. I don't know why. My life isn't rough right now, quite the opposite in fact, but still. It's just a thought I keep mulling over.

OK! I think I can stay awake for another hour or so and I fully intend to spend it reading fic. I'm having slight withdrawals! It's SAD. I need my boys!!

Yesterday I read an article about how drinking coffee and tea every day can slow the development of Type II Diabetes. So, see? This is about HEALTH.

And now I want to see your coffee/tea-related icons. Show me!

Unrelated, I got this in a CNN alert last Saturday, but haven't seen anyone mention it: Houston, Texas, elects openly gay woman as mayor. And, here's the article.
Annise Parker elected mayor of Houston, becomes first lesbian to lead a major U.S. city.
I feel like I haven't talked to any of you guys in so long. I'm begging you to stop and say hi. Tell me what's going on in your life! I WANT TO KNOW.

Apparently TNT bought the syndication rights to Supernatural, which is very exciting. I saw the list of S1 eps they're starting with and got so incredibly nostalgic. GO SHOW.

My brother graduated with his Master's degree on Saturday. They actually hooded the candidates as they walked across the stage, which was kinda fun. (My Master's graduation was much larger, and we all just came on stage already wearing our hoods.) Anyway. Andy is 6'4" and the guy hooding people was about a foot shorter. Andy actually had to KNEEL to get the hood put on. It was pretty amusing and amazing.

The ceremony also had one of the very best graduation speeches I've ever heard. Just amazingly inspirational. I'm thinking about writing the speaker a thank you note, it was seriously that good.

Last night I had an awesome dinner with [info]mandyremains. She going back home this week and I do not want her too! I've really enjoyed getting to spend time with her this last six weeks.

I know people get irritated with me for being all "every fic is amaaaaazing!", but I am seriously obsessed with the [info]salt_burn_porn entries thus far. Y'all. EVERY FIC IS AMAZING. Don't let my enthusiasm stop you from cruising the comm and reading some incredible stuff -- all of which was written in 24 hours and STILL is smoking hot and creative and well done. Go read! *insists*

I am all caught up on my TV watching. IT'S A MIRACLE. Can I just briefly say OMG DEXTER. I did not see that twist coming! The books and the TV show have gone off in vastly different directions but it's interesting to see them sort of dovetailing back to each other. I didn't see that coming either!

Love this picture, it makes me happy.

    13th-Dec-2009 09:15 am - Sunday Recs: Three J2 + One SPN
Hey, it's Sunday! How about some fic recs?

  • Bedtime Stories by [info]maboheme -- (Jared/Jensen, R, 1,900 words) -- Falling in love with his best friend? Maybe it's just the trick of the light, a Trickster's delight. Or maybe...maybe it’s the only true thing Jared's ever done.

  • down the shore everything's alright (when you're in love with a Texas boy) by [info]jeyhawk -- (Jared/Jensen, NC-17, 13,000 words)-- Jensen's a rock star and Jared runs his biggest fan site. When the two of them meet sparks fly, but Jensen's lived his entire life in his closet, is he really ready to step out of it?

This fic really is about the boys falling in love and how they make it work. It just makes me HAPPY.

  • Favorite Positions by [info]dragonspell -- (Jared/Jensen, NC-17, 2,025 words) -- This fic is about Jensen thinking through all the things he loves Jared to do to his body. Mmmmmm.

  • Eclipse of the Sun by [info]itsthedetails -- (Sam/Dean, NC-17, 1,586 words) -- Sam and Dean in high school and having to hide their obvious epic love. Warning: Sam's about 14.

This fic is sexy and hot and it does that wee!cest thing where Dean has to fill up every role in Sam's life: parents, brother, lover, friend. And, in the meantime, Sam is trying to fight off girls with crushes, get his homework done, manage hunting, and smooch on his brother. And it all manages to be both sweet and sexy.
  • My baby brother is getting his Master's Degree today! It's very exciting.

Addison is going to a party with her Nana, so I won't get to see her, which is sad. But, I will get to focus lots of attention on Baby Drew, which I never get to do. So, that'll be fun. Baby snuggles!

Christmas is in thirteen days! ALSO EXCITING.

Last night I ordered teeny tiny Converse for Addison and Baby Drew, so we all can match. I still need a toy/fun present for Addison though, and I got NOTHIN. Everything I see online looks cheap (even though it's all very expensive) and boring. BAH HUMBUG.

Gotta be at my mom's house in an hour, so I better run. AHHH. Love you guys! Happy Saturday!

12th-Dec-2009 02:55 pm - better late then never
    Hello! I'm alive!
I realized I haven't updated all week. I just thought that with the whole LJ notifications mess there was really no point in making an entry. Moreover I'm working like crazy, I really don't have a lot of free time.
But the weekend is here and I bring you cookies!!!!! LOL I finally (thanks to Shannon) got my CHICAGO CON 09 VIDEOS back!!!! \o/
I know, I'm late and you probably have watched the j2 panel somewhere else, but I was really close to the stage and I liked how the videos turned out. So I thought I would share. Enjoy!

    1) This is definitely my fav one. It's the end of the panel. The boys are signing the banners (Jensen cracks me up) and then there is the charity auction. I think it was my fav moment. So much fun!

    Future!fic, domestic love ♥

It's been five years and Dean and Sam continue to fight on - once a hunter always a hunter. Dean wants to do something special for Sammy, and a nice reclusive cabin in the Tennessee hills might be the perfect solution. A month of domestic bliss would do them well, and he's pretty sure Sam would agree to pancakes in the morning. ♥

Normalcy has always been Sam’s plight. Normalcy for Sam’s sake has always been Dean’s.  )

For the third year in a row, Amazon and Penguin have teamed up for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, an international writing competition that offers new writers a chance at publication. Earlier this week, it was announced that there would be two prizes for this year’s competition, one of which will be for the best young adult novel. Also new this year: the competition is open to novels that have been previously self-published.

Up to 10,000 manuscripts will be accepted for the contest, which will then be narrowed down—in turn by Amazon editors/top reviewers, Publishers Weekly reviewers, and Penguin editors—before arriving at three finalists in each category. On the young adult side, the panel critiquing the finalists consists of authors Sarah Dessen and Nancy Werlin; Amy Berkower, president of Writers House; and Ben Schrank, president and publisher of Penguin’s Razorbill imprint. Amazon customers will then vote on a grand prize winner in each category, with winners receiving a $15,000 publishing contract with Penguin.

Additional details about the competition are available at Amazon’s contest page.
